Now is the time to start your year-round,

Harvest veggies all winter, and when springtime comes, you will

enjoy an abundance of delicious, nutritious, and inexpensive fresh food.

In this hands-on class, comprised of 6 weekly workshops, we will create two 4’ x 10’ garden plots from the ground up; plant and learn how to maintain the garden; and then enjoy a harvest.

September 17: double digging and soil building

September 24: edging with rock and/or straw bales, drip irrigation installation (Skip October 1)

October 8: planting the cool season crops and mulching

October 15: companion planting, seasonal vegetables, and fertilizing

October 22: weeding, thinning, and harvesting

Held in East Washoe Valley, between Reno and Carson City.

Taught by Marcia & Steve Litsinger, Churchill Butte Organics, offering year-round locally produced organic vegetables since 1997.

Marcia is an independent organic inspector, CCOF certified, and co-chair of the Nevada Organic Council.

Learn what is known as “organic urban agriculture” and “French intensive gardening.” Get the maximum yield out of the smallest amount of space, build the soil, eliminate the many costs of transportation.

Feed yourself and your family great organic food.
