“I’d like to know what people’s experience is with all the methods of TV reception that are available and possibly comparison of costs. Is there a way to ask on this website and/or have a dialogue about it? We definitely miss the PBS station and I have not succeeded in convincing KNPB to put another translator on Slide Mtn. so that we here in Washoe can receive their signal (we DO have an antenna).”

editor: We know that Charter cable is available with an internet and phone option. Dish and Direct TV satellite service is also available. There was an “over-the-air cable” service available, I think, but don’t have any information on it. Maybe someone else does.

One problem is getting high speed internet. It can be bundled with Charter but I don’t know if it is available with the dish services. You can get DSL from the phone company or the “over-the-air internet” with a company called Clearwire.

It will be interesting how the stations handle their “over-the-air” services for rural residents with the coming DTV transition. Hopefully PBS is waiting to install a DTV translator on Slide Mt. Some local channels may decide to go “cable-only” assuming most of their customers have it.

I have heard some people receive more channels with better reception where they live from over-the-air reception and others worse. I have also heard on the news today that the govmint is running out of money for the discount coupons for the dtv converters so maybe you want to get them, wait and see what your over-the-air signals are in February and go from there.

Any other thoughts, anyone?
