The School Board has asked that public hearings be held about the possibility of moving certain and current Damonte 8th grade students to Galena High School
beginning next year. Basically, students who were zoned to Pleasant Valley Elementary are the only students
affected. A large map of the region affected is in the
office.
AGAIN, ONLY CURRENT AND FUTURE 8TH GRADE STUDENTS MAY BE AFFECTED. NO CURRENT DAMONTE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WILL BE AFFECTED.
The Damonte Ranch High School meeting will be at
7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30th, in the Little Theatre.

I went to the meeting at Damonte Ranch HS last night to hear the proposal that will be presented to the school board on 11/25/08. The plan is for re-zoning multiple school districts which is to be implemented starting in 2009-2014. The data provided by Rick Borba and Hank Vanderbeak was based on growth expectations from numbers they pulled as of November 2007.
The plan would suggest rezoning to even out the school population by moving 8th graders at Damonte Ranch HS that will be freshmen next year (Fall 2009) to Galena. Any subsequent children that are from Washoe Valley/Pleasant Valley area that will be attending the new middle school (Depoli), will then be zoned for Galena.
I have a 7th grader at Damonte Ranch HS now, who is going to be moved to Depoli for 8th grade and then….if the zoning goes thru moved to Galena.
The hardest move was going from PVES to Damonte Ranch HS – no middle school to buffer the blow, and now that the children are getting into the groove at Damonte Ranch HS, they not only want to purpose setting them back by sending them to Depoli for one year, but then moving them to a completely different high school the year after that.
I hope that all who read this will write a letter or send a email to block this from being passed by the school board.
