I thought I would pass on this information. The biomass site on Eastlake Blvd will not be reopened in 2013. I know many homeowners were probably looking forward to the biomass site opening again this fire season. It’s a loss to our area as I saw a lot of brush, dead trees, etc. removed by home owners over the past two years.

There are multiple reasons for the closure with the primary reason being commercial landscapers using the sites to dump their brush, etc. This in turn caused the piles to exceed by over 50% of the estimated useage. This caused costs exceeding the planned budgets and caused complaints from some people about its large size and even some air quality complaints about the mulching process. Those complaints about air quality must have come from the designated mulching site as the brush was not mulched on site like the prior year and was transported from Washoe Valley.

  3. On September 27, 2013 there is a trip planned to Will James Cabin with members of the Will James Society. The Society is having their 21 Annual Gather at JA’s Nugget in Sparks, NV. Normally the cabin is closed to the public, Only a special tour like this one will the present owners allow folks to come and see where the famous Cowboy author and Artist Will James and his wife Alice lived. James wrote his most famous book Smokey the Cow Horse while he and Alice lived here. For more information about the Gather and other planned events that are open to the public go to http://www.wiilljames.org.or contact Sharon De Carlo at 775-265-7137
